Ever since the recent mind-blowing success of YOUR NAME., we’ve all been waiting with bated breath for the next anime that could give the international hit a run for its literal and metaphorical money.
Luckily, now we’ve got some gorgeous new anime eye candy to anticipate: the trailer for MARY AND THE WITCH’S FLOWER, a bewitching potential classic from Ex-Ghibli animator Hiromasa Yonebayashi, known for more recent Ghibli hits THE SECRET WORLD OF ARRIETY and WHEN MARNIE WAS HERE.
The first feature film from Studio Ponoc, MARY AND THE WITCH’S FLOWER is serving up KIKI’S DELIVERY SERVICE vibes with dreamy ARRIETY-esque visuals, featuring a plot centered on the young heroine’s spellbinding brush with the supernatural. When Mary finds a forbidden flower from the realm of the witches, she has just one night to embrace the magic powers of witch–complete with broom sticks, strange creatures, and some kind of dramatic mission.
The animation looks beautiful, the story looks emotionally compelling–I’m sold.
Prepare to be bewitched:
