Yes, there is a real-life Toyota GT86 inspired by the cult drifting manga, INITIAL D. Unfortunately, it is just a one-time show car for promotion.
In the manga series, the hero, Takumi Fujiwara, hones his underground racing skills with a modified Toyota AE86. Although that particular model has been off the market for 8 years now, Toyota decided to bring the concept back to life with the one-off GT86 INITIAL D successor.
The concept car uses RS Watanabe alloy wheels, TRD suspension, a Fujitsubo exhaust system, Cusco strut brace, a carbon fibre bonnet, yellow-tinted fog lights, and a silver-painted engine cover to draw homage to the manga car. Carbon fibre door hand protectors and mirror covers mimic the black plastic material originally used on the AE86.
To complete the promotion, Toyota has rolled out a full manga-inspired campaign for the GT86 INITIAL D concept.
The Toyota GT86 Inital D concept will be touring Britain at motoring events throughout the summer.
