Gird your loins, Koreaboos: oppa might not be as unattainable as you thought.
Just kidding! Unless, of course, you’re selected to be in the cast of a reported reality show in the works from Chosun TV, wherein Korean celebrities will be paired up with non-famous folks that match up with their “ideal types” for 100 days of dating.
Dating shows have been increasingly popular in Korea throughout the last few years, from hits like Heart Signal, where, in the tradition of Japan’s Terrace House, a group of attractive young singles room together in pursuit of romance, to We Got Married where k-pop idols, actors, and other celebrities live like a newlywed couple.
As AsianJunkie points out, however, just because the celebrities’ matches in the proposed series aren’t household names, doesn’t mean they’re average Joes; they’re probably just as beautiful, talented, or rich as their famous counterparts. I also wonder if current popular idols will be allowed to participate, when dating normies might hit a little too close to home for enamored fans, or whether they’ll stick to actors or other varieties of celeb.
