It can be so difficult to find the perfect birthday present for your loved one. Money is always an option, but it could come off as lazy, crude, or impersonal.
A twenty-year-old Bangkok student named Pilaslak Puenchoke felt indecisive about what to get her boyfriend, Tua. His birthday falls close to Valentine’s Day, so she felt extra pressure to get him something absolutely amazing.
When Pilaslak tried to be upfront and simply ask Tua what he would like for his gift, he gave her a pretty vague response: “Man things.”
Unsure of what to do, Pilaslak decided to deliver a conventional gift in a wholly creative way. The part-time makeup saleswoman withdrew 100,000 baht from her bank account, the equivalent of $3171 USD. Employing the assistance of a local florist, she had the colorful bills arranged into a massive, expensive bouquet.
She then surprised her boyfriend whilst he got dinner with his friends, enlisting a nearby musician to play him a Happy Birthday jingle.
Pilaslak claims “‘It was all a big surprise for my boyfriend. He said he wasn’t too interested in expensive gifts, or fancy things. But he was just being kind. So I wanted to show him how special he is.”
She also remarked that her boyfriend’s friends all seemed to agree that she is the best girlfriend ever for her generous, decadent present. She adds “His friends were impressed. I think they would like their girlfriends to give them a similar gift. They said I’m the best girlfriend but it is just good fun.”
Evidently the Internet agrees with netizens swooning over the lavish, over-the-top offering. Video of the birthday celebration went viral in and out of Thailand. They say money doesn’t grow on trees, but love certainly lives in giant bouquets made of cash.
