Still reeling from BTS’s historic win at the BBMAs? Taiwan-based artist Siyouko’s animanga interpretation of the cinematic Not Today music video puts a unique spin on the underdog anthem. Originally posted to Twitter in celebration of her birthday, Siyouko’s artwork combines several distinct color palettes from the MV with her own art style.
Unsurprisingly, Siyouko’s artwork has garnered a lot of attention from BTS’s fanbase, the ARMY. The 7-part series of illustrations has a combined 26.5K likes on Facebook, as well as 11.2K retweets on Twitter.
Each piece is inspired by strategic stills from the music video, which Siyouko then translated into her own lineart. She shares insight into how she achieved the bright, airy style on her facebook page (albeit in Chinese).
Many fans have expressed interest in seeing more BTS fanart from Siyouko. A huge BTS fan herself, she intends to release more artwork this month to celebrate BTS’s fourth anniversary, which falls on June 13.
Siyouko’s Not Today series has become especially popular in light of BTS’s Best Social Artist win, a landmark accomplishment that earned them a significant foothold in Western media.
Like many artists on the internet, Siyouko’s work has been shared widely without credit. On her social media, she asks fans to please refrain from editing or reposting the images without linking back to her original page.
