Indian-Canadian YouTube personality Lilly Singh is making history after being tapped as NBC’s newest late night television host. She’ll be taking Carson Daly’s 1:35 AM slot starting this September with her new show A Little Late with Lilly Singh.
Singh announced her exciting news on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon on Thursday night. She also thanked Fallon for letting her announce on his show and for always being kind and supportive of her, then clarified that she wouldn’t be taking his slot.
Jimmy had Singh practice interviewing him for her new show by switching seats with her and having her sit at his desk. Next, fellow NBC late night host Seth Myer joined in on a champagne celebration!
Singh will both record traditional talk show segments and air prerecorded comedy bits and sketches. In her words A Little Late will be “kind of like my YouTube channel but just, you know, now I have more than three staff members.”
The 31-year-old’s smash hit YouTube channel, ||Superwoman|| is one of the most successful on the video sharing site. She started it in 2010 to help cope with her depression. Today, it boasts over 14.5 million subscribers! She’s no stranger to meeting and working with celebrities on her channel, featuring such guests as Seth Rogen, Priyanka Chopra, The Rock, and Selena Gomez,
She’s also had roles in major motion pictures Ice Age: Collision Course and Bad Moms.
Singh’s landing such a prominent spot on network television is a big step for diversity. She’ll be the only woman of color to be hosting a show on one of the four major networks. The Punjabi actress and comedian identifies as bisexual, coming out via Twitter in February 2019.
Other celebrities and stars were eager to show their support for Singh’s wonderful news, including Carson Daly.
