Tomoko Fuyukawa’s manga, MUSTARD CHOCOLATE, is now being adapted for a live-action film directed by Akihito Sasaki, slated for release in early 2017.
The manga revolves around a socially awkward third-year high school student, Rinko Tsugumi, who starts attending a preparatory school for the arts. At her new school, Rinko is unable to make friends with her new classmates and spends her time silently drawing pictures. Her eccentric behavior becomes a source of anxiety for her teacher Yaguchi. The manga earned the Encouragement Prize at the 15th Japan Media Arts Festival Awards in 2011.
The live-action film will star former NMB48 idol member, Nana Yamada, as the lead, Rinko Tsugumi. Motohiro Ōta is set to play Yaguchi. Other cast members include Toshiyuki Someya and Keisuke Kaminaga.
