Kwak Kyung-taek -the South Korean director behind FRIEND, EYE FOR AN EYE, and THE CLASSIFIED FILE – has started filming a new mystery-thriller titled RESURRECTION, slated to be the lucky 13th feature film of his career. Kwak Kyung-taek will be working again with Jang Young-nam, who previously collaborated with the director on both FRIEND: THE GREAT LEGACY and THE CLASSIFIED FILE. The rest of the cast is has meanwhile been filled with some of today’s top stars of Korean cinema, with Kim Hae-sook (AUTUMN IN MY HEART) as the central figure weaved into the mystery, alongside Kim Rae-won (MY LITTLE BRIDE), Sung Dong-il (THE GREAT HEIST), Jeon Hye-jin (LOVE SO DIVINE) in other roles.
Many details regarding the overall plot of RESURRECTION have yet to be released, but the movie will explore the character of Choi Myung-sook (played by Kim Hae-sook), a woman coming back to life seven years after her death. Kim Rae-won will play Choi’s son, a prosecutor tracking down the events surrounding his mother’s undeserved end. Jang Young-nam will be playing Choi’s daughter.
Showbox Inc. will be distributing the film. Though the company was only founded in 2002, they’ve managed to distribute several movies that have shattered box office records in South Korea, most notably THE HOST in 2006 and THE THIEVES in 2012. Kwak Kyung-taek recently won the Best Director prize at the 24th Buil Film Awards for his work on THE CLASSIFIED FILE, another Showbox hit. With a big name director and a solid cast attached to the project, there is sure to be more information on the details of RESSURECTION to come.
