For whatever reason, Leonardo DiCaprio joined Weibo, basically the Chinese equivalent of Twitter, on Saturday, announcing to Chinese netizens with his first post, “Hello, China! I’m Leonardo.”
Chinese Weibo users responded and welcomed him. One of his fans wrote, “Welcome to Weibo! We are so excited that chinese fans can take a step closer to you, and know more things about you and your films. 🙈Hope we will have a good communication!”
And then came the memes.
And MORE Leo memes.
SO. MANY. MEMES.
Seriously, what a welcome.
So much so, that some adoring Chinese fans are worried they’re actually scaring DiCaprio off.
Via Shanghaiist, the comments (jokingly) read:
“If you guys keep posting weird things, Leonardo will probably leave!!!”
“I’m afraid that his next post will be: Bye China!”
Though he hasn’t posted on his account since, Leo is already up and over 1.3 million followers. I, for one, think his entrance to the Chinese social media platform is a success.
Cheers to Leo!
