Lee Byung-hun’s star continued rising at a lightning-fast pace this year with political thriller INSIDE MEN. When the Korean Film Actors Association held its annual award ceremony on December 29th at the Grand Hyatt Seoul, it was no surprise when he took home the Top Star award.
INSIDE MEN was an unexpected hit this year, smashing box office records and taking the Korean movie world by storm. The success fits well into the star mold Lee has been building for himself over the past several years, with such films as I SAW THE DEVIL and MASQUERADE.
As we’ve recently covered, Lee has become one of the biggest international stars to come out of Korea. His debut film in Hollywood was G.I. JOE: THE RISE OF COBRA, followed by prominent roles in RED 2 and TERMINATOR: GENISYS (pictured below). Next year, he’ll feature alongside Denzel Washington and Chris Pratt in a MAGNIFICENT SEVEN remake.
The other Top Star recipients were Yoo Ah-in, who starred in two major heavyweights in 2015, VETERAN and THE THRONE, and Han Hyo-joo, star of the drama THE BEAUTY INSIDE. Lee Joon-ik took home the award for Best Director, also for his work on THE THRONE.
