New Japanese Anime Stars Crime-Solving Butt Detective

Otter Lee June 28, 2017 June 28th, 2017

Oh Japan, what sort of deliciously perverse entertainment will you dream up next? We’ve seen teenage girls, cats, and even gods all solve crime in the world of anime but Toei Animation’s newest show Oshiri Tantei (which translates to Butt Detective) will follow the adventures of a talking butt as he er gets to the bottom of various mysteries!

The anime will be based on a middle school children’s book series by a duo aptly-named Troll, which consists of author Yōko Tanaka and illustrator Masahide Fukasawa. Oshiri Tantei currently has released six books since 2012 with copies sold exceed 1.5 million.

Believe it or not, this isn’t the first time that someone’s trying to pull this crazy premise off. Viewers of Cartoon Network’s Adult Swim Programming from 2006-2008 will recall Assy McGhee, which followed a similar concept with a focus on darker, more adult and violent themes. This is the first time that this crazy premise has been targeted at younger audiences.

Toei Animation just released a teaser trailer for Oshiri Tantei which has received over 150,000 views as of today with comments sadly (but probably best left) disabled.

Our new favorite hero can be seen sniffing coffee, eating dessert, and shaking his cheeks–I mean head all over the place. It’s especially interesting that Butt Detective appears to live in a world populated by talking, human-like animals while he himself appears as a talking human butt with hair and other human features.

He looks like someone’s Mii gone terribly awry in Animal Crossing New Leaf.

Japanese children will soon be watching all types of things slide where they hadn’t before.

Instead of a gun, Butt Detective has the power to release his flatulence on command to incapacitate anyone and everyone with a gust of gross.

It’s bizarre, it’s borderline lewd, and I have no doubts it will be a great hit. Oshiri Tantei will launch on Toei’s YouTube Channel along with the new YouTube KIDS app!
