Jackie Chan’s Estranged Daughter Says She Is Now Homeless Due To Homophobic Parents [Video]

Being a member of the LBGTQIA community can be full of danger and discrimination from both strangers and loved ones that are unaccepting. LBGTQ youth are at greater risk for mental health conditions and other risks like depression, abandonment, substance abuse, and homelessness.

Having a wealthy and famous father means nothing if he does not play an active role in providing for you. After coming out as a lesbian last October, Etta Ng, Jackie Chan‘s daughter announced that she and her girlfriend Andi Autumn are currently without a home.

In an emotional YouTube video, Etta said, “We’ve been homeless for a month due to homophobic parents. We pretty much slept under a bridge and other things.”

According to Etta, she and Autumn have looked everywhere for help, but no longer have the support of their family or friends. Government shelters, they say, will not allow them to stay together.

In Autumn’s words: “I asked all my friends for help, and I asked all my family for help, and everyone just keeps sending us to the direction of shelters, where they know we will be split up.” While in their video caption they clarify that they are being helped by a friend who can no longer house them, it’s still unclear where exactly that is–just a few days before this video was posted, Ng and Autumn were reportedly spotted on CCTV at a convenience store in Canada, where Ng told the cashier she wanted to find her dad. According to other reports, Ng was living with her mother in Happy Valley until she came out in September, when she left home and moved in with Autumn in North Point, another Hong Kong neighborhood. Her mother reported her missing in February, but more recently said that she knew her daughter was staying with friends, but was not in Hong Kong.

“I don’t understand what’s going on,” Ng says, “because we’ve gone to the police, we’ve gone to the food banks, the LGBT community shelters, and all of them just don’t give a shit.” The couple asks viewers to share and repost their story, to shine light on their situation.

Previously, Etta has mentioned that her biological father played no role in raising her. She was conceived as the result of an affair between Jackie Chan and Hong Kong socialite and celebrity Elaine Ng Yi Lei.

In 2015, Elaine was arrested for allegations child abuse, but later released; in 2017, a month after moving out, Elaine reported to police that Etta had burgled her home, while Etta dismissed claims by saying she told her mother directly that she was coming by to pick up her stuff. When asked about rumors regarding her daughter’s sexuality last summer, Ng said, “Sexual orientation doesn’t matter. The most important thing is that the person can take care of my daughter, have a kind heart, and loves her.”

In her statement about the video, Elaine had no sympathy for her daughter’s plight:

They shouldn’t film a clip telling others they are broke and who Etta’s father is… People all over the world work hard and don’t rely on someone else’s fame to get money.”

Chan and his representatives have not responded with any kind of statement.

Edits: Elaine Ng’s response to questions about Etta’s sexuality was given in June of 2017, not in the fall after she came out.  Elaine Ng was arrested in 2015, not 2014.
