Is it possible that the TOKYO GHOUL movie could live up to our ridiculously high expectations? That a live-action anime adaptation could actually do justice to its source material, capturing the spirit of the original in 3-dimensional flesh-and-blood?
But we can hope! And with the TOKYO GHOUL’s new 30-second trailer, it seems like our hopes may not be inevitably dashed. As Polygon points out, while there’s not much meet to the brief preview, what we do see looks quite faithful to edgy anime we know and love.
TOKYO GHOUL has been wildly popular since its first manga arc back in 2011, the tale of a college freshman who accidentally goes on a date with a girl who wants to eat him–then finds himself with the same taste for human flesh himself. Dark, edgy, with just right dose of oh-no-i’m-a-monster existential crises, fans flocked to consume every iteration of the story, from manga, to anime, and video games.
And now, inevitably, the live-action version. Check it out:
