Ah, Hello Kitty and wine, a timeless combination.
The company that created Hello Kitty, Sanrio, is expanding the character’s huge empire to take on the wine industry. They’ve teaming up with the Italian Torti Winery to produce a Hello Kitty wine line.
Currently, there are two different types of the wine. The first is a sparkling white wine made with Pinot Noir Grapes, and a blend of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay for a rosé. They both come in adorable heart-shaped bottles made specially for the Hello Kitty brand wine.
This wine has been in the works since 2007. After drinking Torti Wine at a restaurant, executives at Sanrio contacted the family to asked if they would be interested in teaming up for the project. They promptly agreed to take on the task.
Right now the wine is unfortunately only available at Antonello Ristorante in Santa Ana, CA, but don’t worry! The Torti family plans to expand distribution. If you can make it out to Santa Ana, you’ll find Hello Kitty wine by the glass and the bottle, as well as have the option to take a bottle to go. There’s even a whole menu of Hello Kitty themed food: a Hello Kitty-shaped watermelon,a pink bowtie pasta served with a four-cheese Alfredo sauce, and a flourless chocolate cake shaped like Hello Kitty (I want the latter more than the wine, to be honest).
Let’s hope for a nationwide release soon!
