You can take the star off of television, but you can’t keep the television from luring the star back onto its screen. That, or something like it, was the famous phrase proven today with the announcement that Go Soo and Jin Se-Yeon will return to the medium that made them famous for MBC’s follow-up to MY DAUGHTER, GEUM SA WOL (내 딸, 금사월).
Tentatively titled OKJOONGHWA (옥중화) – which Google tells me translates into “Prison Tuesday” – not much is known about the project, but the team surrounding it has been enough to draw attention. The series marks a return of sorts for quite a few notable talents. Go Soo, who got his start on MBC’s MY FUNKY FAMILY in 1999, and who’s career has continued to soar unabated by his mandatory military service, will be returning to the small screen after a few years away starring in films. This will also be Jin Se-yeon’s first TV drama since 2014’s DOCTOR STRANGER. The most noteworthy reunion, however, is that of producer Lee Byung-hoon and screenwriter Choi Wan-kyu, the team behind SANGDO and HEO JOON, who haven’t worked together in fifteen years.
Though details are scarce, we do know that OKJOONGHWA will see Se-yeon play Oknyeo, a lawyer stuck navigating the bureaucracy of the Joseon Era legal system as she attempts to free women who have been falsely accused. Go Soo’s role is still unknown, but we’ll be sure to let you know soon as we do. In the meantime, we can all engage in that most classic online activity: baseless speculation! I’m guessing he’ll be the one falsely accusing the women Se-yeon is trying to defend.
Do you have baseless speculation of your own? You know where to put it (and if you don’t, well, it’s the comments).
