Could YoonA be the Beyonce to Girls’ Generation’s Destiny’s Child? We mean, the rest of the group is of course made up of amazing talented women, but YoonA is royalty; even surrounded by idols, she’s still the K-pop kween.
Which is why it’s surprising she’d yet to make a single since debuting with the group almost ten years ago, and also why it’s such a complete delight that she’s finally done so now, and also it features 10cm’s dreamy vocals, and also the video is karaoke-ready with lyrics and everything and oh my god we need to sit down!
At first blush, the title “Deoksugung Stonewall Walkway” might seem a little unwieldy for a song so smooth, but there’s a good reason why YoonA chose this real world location as the focus of her song. The walkway, located in Seoul’s Jung district, is a gorgeous half-mile road that superstition nevertheless says is cursed. Any couple who walks down the wall’s entire length, the superstition goes, is doomed to break up. YoonA’s song, however, is about a couple taking that curse as a challenge; their love is so true that not even the threat of the Deoksugung’s walkway could possibly touch it.
If that doesn’t warm your heart, you’re probably dead inside.
