Oh hey. Didn’t notice you there. Welcome back to another installment of Friday Shorts.
Today we’re back again with another adaptation of Natsumi Soseki’s infamously delirious dreams. From THE GRUDGE director Takashi Shimizu, CHILD is the third night of dreams from the Soseki anthology TEN NIGHTS OF DREAMS. This particularly meta adaptation presents itself as though it’s being projected onscreen from Soseki stream-of-consciousness as he attempts to write down the dream we’re watching. Mixing biographical elements of the author’s life into the fiction, this short flits between Soseki at work and with family, between his memories and the dream driving all his anxieties. All these elements are filtered through Shimizu’s signature dread-filled atmosphere, making for a surprisingly chilling short – so don’t say we didn’t warn you.
