Nathan Johnson has a lot to be happy about. The 50-year-old Democratic candidate for Texas State Senate just won an election against Republican incumbent Don Huffines.
Johnson’s resume outlines that he graduated magna cum laude from the University of Arizona with a degree in physics, then earned a law degree from the University of Texas at Austin. In his youth, he also volunteered for survivors of domestic abuse. However, the rising politician has experience in a field that few of his peers can claim to have.
Johnson once composed background music for Texas based dubbing company Funimation’s American dub of the popular anime Dragon Ball Z. He also recorded several of the soundtracks for Funimation’s releases of the following DBZ movies: Dragon Ball Z: The World’s Strongest, Dragon Ball Z: The Tree of Might, Dragon Ball Z: Broly – Second Coming (with I.O.N.), Dragon Ball Z: Fusion Reborn (with Dave Moran)*, and Dragon Ball Z: Wrath of the Dragon.
For Wrath of the Dragon, Johnson took special care in composing legendary hero Tapion’s theme, even teaching himself how to play the ocarina in order to create a new piece for the character.
Listen here to a track he made for the recaps played at the beginning of episodes during the Saiyan Saga.
Elated at is victory, Johnson told press “I’m feeling really excited about going to Austin with a much better legislative environment.”
He added “Everything we tried to do and hope would happen, happened. We had a surge of turnout in disillusioned Democrats and success with winning moderate Republicans. I think that’s what put us over.”
It’s crazy to think that just 15 years ago, Johnson was setting the scene and mood for the tense intrigue of the Androids saga. Now, he’ll be working to pass legislation that will impact the state of Texas.
