Meet Marcelito Pomoy, a talented singer and now viral sensation. Pomoy’s performances were so popular that he received an invitation to perform on The Ellen Degeneres Show via social media.
On the show, Pomoy admitted that he was shocked and dazzled by the offer, saying “I really didn’t expect it but EllenTV.com messaged me on Facebook. I still could not believe it even after being interviewed on Skype. I was only convinced after the ticket going to Ellen arrived.”
In fact, Pomoy was wary of being scammed and had assumed the initial inquiry from the show’s producers was some kind of spam trap.
Ellen often has wacky and talented performers, especially youngsters on her show, but Pomoy especially impressed her with an ability to hit high and low notes that both men and women take great pains to master.
In a feat of total vocal power and grace, Pomoy is able to mimic both Andrea Bocelli and Celine Dion, performing both their parts in a cover of hugely iconic duet “The Prayer.”
Pomoy also blew the studio audience away by successfully nailing the male and female parts from DIsney’s Beauty and the Beast.
Before becoming famous, Pomoy worked as a street vendor, selling the traditional Filipino fast food, Balut. Balut is a fertilized duck embryo cooked in the shell that enthusiasts adore and animal rights activists despise.
Perhaps most astounding of all, the 24-year-old tenor-soprano singer has never had any vocal coaching. In a nation famed for its vocal performances, Pomoy is a true prodigy. He even went on to win season 2 of Pilipina’s Got Talent.
Continuing to surprise the rising vocalist, Ellen gifted him with tickets to see his idol Celine Dion in concert and meet her in person!
What an inspiring story!
