What hot topping got Pizza Hut to reach record sales? Why a heaping helping of K-Pop Idol of course! In addition to promoting a new special pizza in May, Chinese Pizza Huts brought on Korean boy band Exo’s Lay as a spokesman, and dedicated said pizza in his honor.
Now, the idea that eating fast food pizza could somehow bring you closer to your bias is silly. However, that evidently didn’t stop thousands of fans from showing up to support their boy. In fact, Pizza Hut proudly reported that they have sold close to 5 Million of Lay’s pizzas in just four weeks!
Yep, it sounds crazy, but a sexy celebrity is all you need these days to make your product take off. Lay was an exceptional choice for Pizza Hut China because he is Exo’s only Chinese native member. He began his career as a child actor and singer before eventually breaking into South Korea’s entertainment scene. For many aspiring artists, his unique path is one they hope to follow one day.
Lay’z pizza is slathered in brushed cheese, crunchy vegetables, and sweet teriyaki beef. His fans truly believe that the pizza captures his essence. Plus the enjoy the many pictures and video ads they see of him eating the carbohydrate-based marketing plan.

So how do they feel about the rocketing numbers of Pizza Hut’s ploy? Validated. According to Koreaboo, many see the excellent sales merely as a testament to Lay’s appeal and greatness.
And if you’re hoping to get a Lay slice, you don’t have much time left. The promotional item will apparently be discontinued next month, and if May’s records are any indication, supplies will run out fast!
