Everyone’s favorite successor series to everyone’s favorite anime has teleported its way into Japan’s Happy Meals! Since last Friday, Goku and some of the Dragon Ball series’ most iconic characters and symbols have been available at McDonald’s across Japan.
This new tie-in is meant to promote DBZ Super’s current story arc, the Universe Survival Saga, where teams of fighters from across the multiverse battle each other for the right to exist. The fifth incarnation of Dragon Ball, after the original Dragon Ball, Dragon Ball Z, Dragon Ball GT, and Dragon Ball Z: Kai, Dragon Ball Super debuted in Summer 2015, and is rapidly nearing its 100th episode!
You’ve got Goku, Vegeta, and Trunks in their new, turquoise-haired Super Saiyan Blue forms, Gotenks in his classic vanilla Super Saiyan form, Goku’s prized Four Star Dragon Ball, and the mighty wishing dragon himself, Shenron. Fans of the DBZ Super anime will recall that Super Saiyan Blue is the most powerful Super Saiyan form yet, exceeding even that of the earlier red-haired Super Saiyan God form.
In a recently released video commercial, each the colorful toys got their mechanical capabilities put into action! Goku fires his trademark Kamehameha attack, Trunks carries his famous Z-Sword, Gotenks launches his Galactic Donuts, and Vegeta just kind of flexes his muscles and looks angry, which is pretty true to his character.
Shenron and the Four-Star Dragon Ball aren’t fighters, so they don’t come with battle poses or projectile attacks, but they both carry switches that fill them with glowing mystical light for all your private wish granting ceremonies.
Unfortunately these toys will not be available at any McDonalds outside of Japan, but with Mario recently making an appearance at McDonald’a in America, it’s entirely possible that more Japan-originated characters will make their way to golden arches overseas in the distant future.
If only we could get Shenron to make our East to West product placement dreams come true
