STAR WARS mania is kicking back into high gear with the impending release of ROGUE ONE, a new standalone spinoff featuring a cast of all-new kickass characters–including not one, but TWO WHOLE ASIAN stars. Progress, guys.
The new film centers on a “unlikely band of heroes” and their plot to steal the plans to the tyrannical Empire’s ultimate weapon: the Death Star. Per the movie’s synopsis: “This key event in the Star Wars timeline brings together ordinary people who choose to do extraordinary things, and in doing so, become part of something greater than themselves.”
According to Slash Film, Chinese kung fu star Donnie Yen of the IP MAN franchise will star as Chirrut Imwe, a “warrior monk with the faith in the force.” Actor Jiang Wen, also an acclaimed director, will play a kind hearted soldier, Baze Malbus. The two rebel fighters are members of an 7-member squad determined to take down the Empire.
