Japanese figure skater Yuzuru Hanyu blew away judges at this year’s Pyeongchang Winter Olympics with his prowess on the ice, taking home his second Olympic gold–but many spectators were just as mesmerized by the athlete’s intense facial expressions during his performances, to the point where fans on Twitter began likening him to a FINAL FANTASY character.
But apparently it wasn’t just Internet amateurs inspired by Hanyu’s anime-esque brooding–Sui Ishida, the original manga author behind the wildly popular TOKYO GHOUL, has now posted his own fanart of Hanyu, drawn in his signature style.

Unlike TOKYO GHOUL, however, Ishida’s interpretation of Hanyu is less creepy than straight-up ethereal. But don’t be surprised if this begets a serious slough of Olympics horror!AU fanfic, with the two Japanese medalist skaters as the stars: Ishida also decided to grace us with a drawing of silver medalist Shoma Uno, although he has yet to post this image on Twitter.
