Damn, it feels good to be an ARMY.
While most of my morning was consumed by one prolonged screech of YAAAAAAAAAASSSS, I’ve now made a full recovery and am ready to share some truly delightful news with you all: k-pop phenoms BTS (AKA Bangtan Sonyeondan, AKA Bulletproof Boyscouts, AKA Beyond the Scene, AKA the reason my Discover Weekly playlist has been entirely Korean for months now) are going to perform at this years’ American Music Awards.

While 2017 may have been a mind-blowingly shitty year for the USA / the world at large, you’ve gotta admit it’ s been pretty stellar for BTS.
After winning the Top Social Artist award at the BBMAs back in May (and breaking the voting record, with over 300 MILLION votes cast in their favor), BTS has continued to #slay and spread the k-pop gospel around the globe. In August, they won the Choice International Award at Teen Choice. Then in September, their latest comeback album, Love Yourself: Her, shattered all kinds of k-pop records: the title track “DNA” made it to #67 on the Billboard Hot 100, and its accompanying music video racked up almost 25 million views in just one day-ranking it at #11 of all time for the most-viewed Youtube video in 24 hours.
And now they’re performing for the first time on American television! While the BBMAs were great exposure for the boys’ beauty/general existence, can you imagine the level of #jungshook when the uninitiated actually see them do their thing? Live?

“Our partners in the U.S. have helped us pave the way in every way possible, and together we are making history,” their label, Big Hit Entertainment told Forbes. “We are also excited to show our fans, ARMY, the first-ever U.S. live TV performance of ‘DNA.'”
And ARMYs are–justifiably–losing their shit, spazzing with pride over their bias group’s underdog-turned-worldwide-superstars story.

While BTS aren’t the first Korean act to perform at the AMAs–that honor went to PSY back in 2012–this is still amazing step for k-pop (and all non-English speaking musicians, tbh) on the international stage.
The AMAs news comes on the heels of the group’s announcement of their #LoveYourself campaign with UNICEF, aimed at helping end violence against teens and children–not to mention the revelation that they might even be guests on Ellen! A producer on the show and representatives from Big Hit have both confirmed that they’ve been invited; it’s just up to BTS if they’re going to accept. YES BITCH, MAKE THEM WORK FOR IT.
Get hype, guys. This is just the beginning.
