South Korean actress Kim Ha-neul (김하늘) began her career as a model, but she soon came to shine on-screen for her acting chops, becoming a household name through her starring turns in romantic-comedy and action films like "My Tutor Friend" (2003) and "My Girlfriend Is an Agent" (2009).
Kim Ha-neul has been in the movie business for nearly 20 years, making her acting debut in 1998's Bye June with Yoo Ji-tae. After acting in several television series, including a turn on the medical drama Doctor K that would earn her her first award nomination, Kim reunited with Yoo Ji-tae in the sci-fi romance Ditto, a role that began to solidify her leading lady status.
But the real turning point in Kim's career came with her starring role in the wildly popular TV drama Piano, which became the most successful drama of the year. She built on her rising popularity with a string of rom-com hits--2002's Romance, followed by the box-office smashes My Tutor Friend, Too Beautiful to Lie, and Almost Love, as well as the modern rom-com classic Lovers of Six Years--all which earned her a nickname amongst Korean media outlets: the "queen of romantic comedies." She did, however, diverge a few times from the romantic route with roles in high-school horror hit The Ghost and the mountain-climbing drama Ice Rain.
She continued her rom-com reign throughout the late aughts and 2010s with critically-acclaimed and audience-approved hits like My Girlfriend Is An Agent and You're My Pet, but then changed tack again in 2012 for a dramatic turn playing a visually-impaired ex-cop in Blind, a critical and commerical success that would be remade in China as The Witness, starring Yang Mi and pop idol Luhan.
In 2012, she starred as a high school ethics teacher caught in a love triangle between two hot-shot lawyers in the beloved k-drama A Gentleman's Dignity. She made her Chinese cinema debut opposite Aarif Rahman in 2015's heart-warming comedy Making Family.
Kim has won multiple awards for her work. She won Best Actress at the 48th Grande Bell Awards in 2011 and at the 32nd Blue Dragon Film awards.
