After years of standout supporting roles in Korea’s biggest box-office hits and critical darlings, Oh Dal-Su’s (finally) slated to star in his own vehicle, PINCHING THE STAR.
It’s about damn time.
Korea’s favorite character actor (THE HOST, MIRACLE IN CELL NO. 7) has accumulated quite the resume, especially in the past year: his films ASSASSINATION and VETERAN attracted almost 40 million admissions, while ODE TO MY FATHER totally swept the Korean awards season.
Ironically enough, Oh’s makes his leading man debut as a character who finds himself feeling less than a leading man in his own life. Oh’s Sung-pil is a struggling stage actor, reduced to taking roles in children’s plays while his wife serves as breadwinner of the family. When his wife is injured on the job and unable to work, Sung-pil comforts his family with a little (read: outrageous) white lie: he’s been cast in a huge director’s next film! Costarring with his staggeringly successful old acting buddy!
Of course, as Sung-pil’s web of lies gets more and more tangled, he’ll have to go to extreme lengths to keep his deception a secret and his family afloat.
OH’s currently filming TUNNEL, where he’ll play second fiddle for the last time to co-stars HA Jung-woo and BAE Doona. Over the years, OH’s worn a lot of hats in the film industry–acting and even assistant directing in wildly profitable films–but we can’t wait to see the forever-second-lead finally take his place as headliner and carry a film on his own.
