It’s a fairytale you may have heard before: talented, beautiful queens locked away in a dungeon by an evil tyrant, unable to release new music to their legions of ride-or-die stans.
But this one has a happy ending, because BLACKPINK has finally been released from YG’s music-barren void to bless us with a whole-ass mini-album! A mini-album may not sound like much new music, but when you’ve only released 5 (amazing) songs in the span of two years, a 4-track treat like this almost doubles your entire repertoire.
AND WHAT A COMEBACK IT IS.
The song and accompanying music video for “DDU-DU DDU-DU” (some things can’t be described by mere ‘words’) are everything we love about BLACKPINK, rolled into one hella glitzy, sexy, storm of sophistication and swag. While their last release, last summer’s “As If It’s Your Last,” was an upbeat bop with a slightly cuter aesthetic, this comeback has the band reclaiming their title as k-pop’s resident bad girls. They know they’re the shit. And if you didn’t know, now you know.
Watch it here:
What a ride. The visuals? Stunning. The vocals? Sublime. The rap? Wowza.
It’s no wonder the video’s already smashing records–it’s already become the fastest girl group video to reach 10 million views, and I imagine they’ll beat several other records as well. It might be possible they’ll even come for BTS’s coveted throne.
