A live action version of Fullmetal Alchemist has been a long time coming, and now the trailer has finally landed. This morning (8 a.m. Japan time), the trailer was posted on the Warner Bros. Japan official Twitter.
With both the manga by Arakawa Hiromu and the anime being extremely popular around the world, pressure is high for the movie. Fans seem upset that the lead actor, Yamada Ryosuke, of Hey!Say!JUMP fame, is Asian, as opposed to Germanic, as the original manga takes place in medieval Europe rather than Japan. However, plenty of fans are stoked about the all-Japanese cast, especially in the face of the live action Ghost In The Shell casting an ignorant white woman as their lead.
The rest of the cast is as follows:
Winry Rockbell – Honda Tsubasa
Roy Mustang – Dean Fujioka
Maes Hughes – Sato Ryuta
Shou Tucker – Oizumi You
Lust – Matsuyuki Yasuko
Envy – Hongo Kanata
Gluttony – Uchiyama Shinji
The movie is slated to debut in Winter 2017. Watch the trailer below, and check out some more info about the film here.
