Angry SUPER SMASH BROS Fans Harass Creator Sakurai For Not Putting Waluigi In The Game

In the age of social media, creators, authors, and performers have more contact with their fans than ever, and those who are unhappy are quick to vent their grievances.

The first gameplay footage for the highly anticipated Super Smash Bros Ultimate for Nintendo Switch premiered at the 2018 E3 gaming expo last week.

Smash creator Masahiro Sakurai announced that the new game will include an unprecedented amount of characters, containing every playable Smash character to ever appear in the franchise along with a few newcomers. From early series staples like Mario and Link to newer guests like Cloud from Final Fantasy and Bayonetta to even those that appeared and were discarded like the Ice Climbers, Solid Snake, and Pichu.

Ridley from Metroid and the Inklings from Splatoon received great fanfare as new additions.

With at least 66 characters as of the most recent trailer, the game promises to have unparalleled scale as a crossover fighter game.

Unfortunately, plenty of fans could not let go the exclusion of their favorite. While Princess Peach counterpart Daisy was also added to the game as an “echo character,” Luigi’s villainous counterpart Waluigi was apparently snubbed, appearing in footage as an Assist Trophy–a character who can be summoned by an item to aid a fighter for a limited amount of time.

Memes and jokes , including one by streaming site Netflix appeared everywhere.

Twitter user @WonderHavoc observed that Waluigi fans are demonstrating extremely toxic behavior and going as far as to troll and harass Sakurai with inappropriate harassment.

@WonderHavoc’s tweet condemned the trolls and spoke out in Sakurai’s defense.

The following meme meant to evoke the World Trade Center Attacks on 9/11 is just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to offensive trolling.

Many more fans have chimed in, coming to Sakurai’s defense, and adding that harassment is NEVER a good or helpful way to get what you want.
